Journey with Steve Gallegos, create a micaceous clay pot from your journeys with Apache Medicine Man Felipe Ortega, who will also read your pot, create a drum with Jimmy Ortega & attend an Apache Two-Spirit sweat lodge
The Vessel and The Voice begins on the evening of July 7th, 5pm. You will need to arrive by early afternoon at River Spirit.
The workshop ends at noon on the 15th.
We are made of earth clay and have come here to develop the voice of our expression while alive. We will spend time with Steve Gallegos working through the magnificent element of the imagination, bringing our awareness to the vessel that we are and the unique events that have fired and hardened it, and developing the voice of our expression here, to bring ourselves to the unified depth of the vessel giving voice, standing in full support of our presence and our expression.
We also have the unique opportunity of working with two Apache brothers, Felipe and Jimmie Ortega. Felipe is a master potter and Jimmie is a master drum maker. We will make one or two pots, forming, polishing, and firing, and inviting the pot to help us come into our own form. We will make a drum, hollowing and shaping the aspen trunk, stretching the rawhide, letting it dry, and sounding it so we hear our own voice. We will drum during the firing of the pots and then have them read by Felipe. And we will feast on Mary Diggin's fine cuisine. What a wonderful life!

Saturday 7th:
6pm Evening meal.
7.30pm Introductory session & Journey.
Sunday 8th-Monday 9th:
All day with Steve Gallegos:
Journeys to the vessel we are, the voice we have etc.
Tuesday 10th:
Morning with Steve Gallegos: 8-11am
1.30-6pm: Felipe Ortega, opening blessing ceremony, introduction to pottery.
6-7pm: Evening meal
7-9pm: Drum making with Jimmy Ortega
Wednesday 11-Friday 13th:
Mornings: Flexible schedule. journeys or freetime or work on pots, depending on individual needs.
1.30-6pm: Felipe Ortega, pottery.
6-7pm: Evening meal
7-9pm: Drum making with Jimmy Ortega
Saturday 14th:
Finishing drums & firing of pots. Reading of pots with Felipe Ortega. Sweat Lodge.
Sunday 15th
Closing session and journey with Steve Gallegos
Other Information:
We can sleep and eat at River Spirit (Steve's home) on the Rio Grande River. The accommodations include two geodesic domes and any large tents that we need, all supplied with beds or futons. You could bring a towel and a sleeping bag, but we also have some here.
There is also accommodation available at the nearby Mission Embudo Retreat Center. This includes Dorm-style accommodation $25 a night. There are also 2 casitas available there for $50+ a night.
Alternatively, we can send a list of nearby B&B’s, which one can book independently. The cost of B&B’s is not included in the workshop fee. River Spirit also has a hot tub, which you are welcome to use during your stay.
The cost, including food and lodging at River Spirit, is $1000.00 per person. Accommodation other than at River Spirit itself is extra. The maximum number of attendees is 10. Deposits are $200 before June 15th 2007 by USD check or bank draft or through PayPal:
