About Moon Bear Press
Moon Bear Press was founded in 1987 by Dr. E.S. Gallegos, in order to self-publish his books on the use of Deep Imagery and to support other authors with similar interests in their efforts at publication. It is named after the Asiatic Black Bear, (Ursus Selenarctos Thibetanus) often called the Moon Bear.
Moon Bear Press has always been aware of the difficulty facing authors in attempting to get published in today's publishing world. With an emphasis on fast turn-over rates (3 months for most large companies) as well as the high competitiveness of the market, many alternative voices are not heard and many worthwhile books simply do not get published. Over the years we have published books by a variety of writers, all who have unique, valuable and important things to say to the world.
As Moon Bear Press is a small family run business, it regrets that it has not always able to publish writers who approach it. Because of the difficulties with the print media, Moon Bear Press has expanded its approach and no longer exclusively publishes books. Instead, with the development of River Spirit Productions in 1999 to produce video and its association in 2002 with Diggin Digital Design, which offers desktop publishing, web design and graphic art, Moon Bear Press is in a position to offer a far broader range of services to people who wish to get their voices heard in the 21st century.
Video, cd-rom/eBooks and other digital, computer based technology offer resources that are only beginning to be explored. We see the internet as an unparalleled resource for individuals and businesses. We especially believe in the uncensored connection it offers between diverse cultures, ideas and peoples. It is a resource whose implications are only beginning to be realized.
We encourage nonprofit organizations, artists, writers, healers and other creative individuals in their exploration of this technology. We also encourage the use of the paperless options this technology offers for environmental and economic reasons.
We have a humane approach to our work. Part of what we do is educational. If a client wants to learn we will teach, demystify and encourage. If a client wants to simply access the internet and other digital areas which we specialize in, we will help them do so, matching their unique needs and situation with our skills. We believe in empowering those we work with.
